I’ve got a wedding to go to this weekend, which I don’t want interrupted with random people calling me about a cheap
rusty car, so this will be posted for sale publicly on Monday-ish, but here’s the early edition for Oppo. Feedback (both the
ad and how far into CP the price is) welcome.

2002 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, 205k miles.
Needs fuel pump (has been sitting since early February). Gas tank is leaking a bit, should be replaced along with pump (~$100 from Rockauto).
4.6L V8, runs well (with a working fuel pump), no smoke. Factory rated at 235 hp and 275 lb-ft, returning around 16mpg city, 20-22 highway.
4R70W (4-speed auto w/OD) transmission shifts well.
3.27:1 limited slip (Trac-Lok) 8.8” rear axle, disk brakes, newer bearings/seals, limited slip works well.
Power windows all work, A/C is very cold, heat is very hot. Aftermarket radio works.
This is the Police Interceptor (“P71”) which has an upgraded suspension and engine tune compared to civilian models.
Factory steel wheels with Firestone Winterforce snow tires, plenty of tread (these tires combined with the limited slip axle make this car great in the snow). Second set of factory steel wheels in trunk, need new tires.
Many relatively new parts, this car never let me down in 5+ years of daily driving. The body is very rusty; the frame is ok (one bad spot behind passenger’s rear wheel, pictured). The drivetrain is in good shape. There are several exhaust leaks, which is common with this engine.
The engine is fitted with a 70mm throttle body (stock is 65mm) with a ported plenum, slightly improving performance. I have the stock parts if desired .
I have a bunch of other random spare parts (some used, some new) as well. Clean title. Passed e-check November 2018.
$750 OBO as-is – Call or text Matt at [redacted]

Oppo Discount applies, if any of you are mad actually interested let me know below and we can exchange contact info. I’m also accepting feedback on the ad, as I’m really bad at selling stuff. I don’t kno w why it’s centered, I copy/pasted from Word and can’t get it back to left-aligned in Kinja.

Have you considered replacing the fuel pump? I imagine you can easily score $1k in that case if it ran properly.

I’m with Wrong Wheel Drive, if you can replace the fuel pump you’ll be able to get more for it.

Honestly, in my opinion anything that doesn’t run is worth maybe a little more than scrap value. If you can’t prove that the thing runs fine when it actually runs, at that the transmission works, I have to assume that they don’t. As it sits, I think you'll be lucky to get $500 for it. Get it running, and you can double that.

If I don’t get much interest the plan would be to attempt changing it. There’s a decent chance that to get it replaced will also involve removing and replacing the tank, and ending up putting more into it than it gains in value. If I’m lucky I miiiiiight be able to change the pump without every fastener breaking off in the (full) gas tank.

Yes but it’s at the point where the value gained vs time and parts are very close to converging

If I don’t get much interest the plan is to attempt changing it, which (because rust) may spiral into replacing the tank as well, and the cost/time vs. gained value curves start getting pretty close toget
h
er at that point.

That’s fair enough.

I would either lower the price to $50 0, or change the tank and pump and make it $1000.

Like I said, if I don’t get much interest I’ll see what I can do about changing the pump out. At this point my time’s value is increasing every wee
k that I have less and less time to try and have a life, so spending a weekend fighting with a car this rusty getting covered in gas is pretty low priority.

Can I have the throttle body and plenum? Pretty please...

Maybe, I may take them off and sell them separately if I feel ambitious enough to swap the stock parts back on sometime soon. I suspect they’re worth more off the car than they add value
on it!

You sir are a glass 1/100th full kinda guy lol. I absolutely hate removing rusty fasteners, something I hope to never deal with ever again. I still need to finish disassembling my old rusty Miata so I'm sure to run into more of that. But thankfully it was leaking so much oil that it did keep rust away from the drivetrain for the most part.

I totally understand. I just think you're over pricing it a bit as a non-runner.

I agree, I don’t expect to get 750 for it, but it’s somewhere to start negotiating :)
The oppo starting price is lower if you’re still looking for that rallycross car...

I’ve done enough work on this car to know its ways, there’s a 10% chance it has zero issues and takes an hour to swa p out the pump , and 90% it ends up like the front shocks, which took two days and broke a pair of channellocks and a nut splitter before accepting replacement :)
The self-undercoating is the upside of an oil leak, (un?)fortunately
this car has never leaked anything in quantity enough to make more than a film on the part which is
leaking.

Gotcha.
I wish I could, but I'm still paying off my kitchen. It's not that I couldn't break off a few hundo for a beater, but I can't tell my wife she needs to watch her spending, and then go buy a Rallycross car.

I understand (except usually I’m the one telling myself “stop spending so much money” then contemplating buying another car). After 18 months I did finally order the brick to almost finish my fireplace this week! Once that’s done I just need a slab for the hearth.

I still haven't actually finished the kitchen I'm working on paying off. That's my goal for this summer.
Don’t get me wrong. I still constantly shop for more vehicles. I don’t know why I torture myself like that.

HowHow do you know it’s the fuel pump. These four words like to disguise many different things as a failed fuel pump. just because the fuel pump isn’t it running when you’re trying to start the car doesn’t mean that it is necessarily bad. Could be a failed fuel pump driver module, damaged wiring harness or connector, inertia switch issues, or a couple others im prob forgetting. If I was you I would get the car properly fixed so that you can honestly try to sell it. You could easily sorted out for probably less than $100 and then just patch the tank. My 2¢. Good luck tho.
